LEGACY OF HATE

In a prison of my making
I listen and I am imprisoned
Always standing in the witness box
Answering questions that lawyers ask
Why do you?
Why did you?
Why didn’t you?
Do this?
Don’t do this?
Be this!!!
Be that!!!
And the questions are endless
As standing there I am judged
Expected to conform to others notions of rights and wrongs...

Why can’t we let people Be
Give them space to breathe
Grant them their right to survive
So Love, trust and respect thrive
Let them be free to travel their journey of self discovery

But no……

We judge and maim with our stereotyped notions
We label and libel as we needlessly gossip
Calumny we hold in great esteem and crucify with glee
As we kill with words mercilessly
We slander, we vilify, we libel, we malign…
And it takes two seconds to annihilate and lifetimes to build
Yet we seek to destroy another’s reputation at will
Try to kill through character assassination
And we cut people to size through our belittling, derisive minds
Wrongly we think we grow taller by making others shrink
But we forget the journey is ours to begin with
Our words tell our story…not that of others
And to live …….
We have to let live….
